    Forum Speed
I am terribly sorry for the speed of our forums lately, after having some money shortages I had to downgrade our forum host, not realizing that it would be struggling to keep up with the resource-intensive forum system we have. I'm working on getting them back up to full speed like normal, which means we'll either have to disable some features or upgrade to a better host (which honestly, we can't afford).

    ------------------------------
    1.8 Saving
As for 1.8, there's been a lot of confusion as to what's happening. So let me sum it up:

Plan that once we update to 1.8, none of your data will be saved and you will be starting out as a new player. This applies to Survival and Skyblock specifically.

I obviously can't guarantee this and I hope it isn't the case, but if Minecraft is really planning what they're planning, it quite possibly might happen. So plan on it.

I will obviously be transferring over whatever I can (see bottom section), but since every piece of data will have to manually be moved over by me (one by one), I can only bring over the biggest things like ranks and stuff. If you want a more technical description or reasoning feel free to PM me.

    Reasons for a map wipe:
    1. The big terrain update in 1.7 caused old maps to have to use a "switcher" to be able to be updated to the new format. This lags our server with the big maps.
    2. The maps are over a year old. (1.5 years to be exact)
    3. The maps are reaching 200-300 GB each, which is just too much. We'll make sure we have a world border this time.
    4. We don't have a complete rollback log for the whole map, since we switched from CoreProtect to Prism and now back to CoreProtect.
    5. New economy system brings new prices. A major change to the economy is more difficult when people still have sign shops with the old prices. People could abuse those existing sign shops before the items are changed to the new prices.
    6. All existing protections, signs, sign shops, grief records, etc., are being updated and completely rewritten. Transferring data from those over to the new servers is impossible.
    7. There are multiple builds on Survival - Build 1 and 2. This is stupid, can't we just have one main building world? It makes for less confusion.
    8. All world-related data (locations, homes, warps) will be using new systems (a new home system, a new warp system), and since those are more efficient and don't use the currently inefficient way of storing data, we couldn't transfer those.
    9. There were multiple server-threatening glitches like people randomly popping up in Creative mode. That was because we ran a Creative world alongside the Survival world. Until we reset everyone, we will still have people randomly in creative mode.
    10. The maps are corrupted. You can see little water squares and places where biomes change and clash drastically. This is a problem with the world
    11. We're going to use a new multi-world system. It's better if we restart the worlds than trying to use a previous system's world.
    12. Skyblock will be using a new island generation system, a new island protection system, and we'll host the spawn, shop, and NetherBlock in the same world as the islands to increase efficiency.
    13. The UUIDs that store player data in 1.8 can't read the same data in 1.7.
As you can see, we have a ton of reasons. I would never reset maps because they're "old", I promise to always have a good reason. In addition, it's been over a year since our last map reset. (Christmas 2012). In comparison, most servers reset their maps on average every 4-6 months. I tried to keep our maps running as long as possible, but now that we're making this switch it's absolutely necessary.
I can also make another promise: I promise not to reset the maps for at least another two years. So you have two whole years to build and survive and know that it won't be deleted.

    ------------------------------

    Griefmas
As for Griefmas, as some of you have been hearing, this will only happen if we reset. Our last map reset was almost 2 years ago, and we did a similar thing for those of you who remember. The few days before we actually reset the maps, we will turn off all chest/land protection, and enable PvP. Then, if you want, you can log in and have fun breaking all the rules. No rollbacks will happen, the spawn will be unprotected and fair game, and you can burn/destroy whatever you want. Trust me, it's fun.

Then, after the whole thing is done, we'll close the server for a day as we do some upgrades, then re-open it on our new 1.8 version with a bunch of new features.

    ------------------------------
    Keeping your buildings
Map resets are always difficult, and I know many of you may lose some things you spent a long time working on. That is why I will try to save whatever I can, so you may see me (upon request) going around and saving WorldEdit schematics for nice-looking buildings in the next few days.
I'll basically go around and save copies of stuff to the backup folder so we can restore them when 1.8 comes around.
    Here's the rules:
    • I am not saving items. Those are easy to regain by spending some time mining, etc. If you try to have me save a chest full of diamonds I simply will ban you for wasting my time.
    • I will only copy over nice buildings or towns. Acacia Park or Girlo's town would be great examples of these. Pixel art would be another example. Ask me in-game.
    • You must have built your building on a flat surface. I'm not going to cut out a mountain area for you.
    • When 1.8 comes, you must clear out the terrain to be the same as it was when I copied it.
    • I will tell you a save-name to remember. Write it down, because if you don't remember it during 1.8, I can't help you restore your building.
So, ask me any time between now and during 1.8. I'll copy your small-ish building or town if it looks nice, and then drop it right back into 1.8 after we have fresh maps. Don't waste my time, and read and follow the rules please.

When you say "world border", do you mean we will have a finite world?

You won't be able to walk past 1-million x-coordinate and z-coordinate. Should be perfect for starting out. If we need to, we can increase it. This just stops people from walking in one direction forever. Each minute you walk in a single direction you generate 5-10MB of map data. Imagine that for 2 years

I will talk to u in-game Josh, but my temple i have spent a year on, its on flat land like u want it to be and is going to be beautiful, its getting there almost done. I hope it is worthy enough for your time and effort to transfer it. Also, since everything is going to be reset mostly, could u possibly unbann some people after a week of 2? That would be great and you know who I'm talking about!
But about the Temple, I'll do anything but real-life $ to have it be saved.

    Thankyou- AJbeast01

I'm glad! I upgraded our web host and purchased a better mySQL database system, and it just activated today.

Everyone please be sure to thank DeathByDonuts, he helped me be able to afford this!

I haven't been able to catch you on the server. Could you go ahead and copy my town over. It's at /warp Harmony City. The perimeters should be fairly obvious; the flattened land is what I need copied. I just want to make sure it's safe because 1.8 can come out any day now.

My house is /warp boesball. If you want to copy it, do it, but don't make it a priority if others need it more

There is only one thing I really want copied and that is my house that is in your town. I could remove all of the trees and stuff so it is just the building on flat land. Would I still be able to have that copied?

I have a building in your town that I would like to be copied. It is on flatland other than a few trees that I can remove if needed. If you are still copying buildings it would be nice to not have to rebuild this. Thanks!

Josh, if it isn't a problem for you, I would really love it if you copied over my city. (/warp GSC) It is under construction right now, so you could break out of the building I put around the warp if you like. I have spent a very long time working on this (As it used to be just ocean O.O) It is on a completely flat surface that I myself, and a few other willing people have placed block by block. Hopefully the fact that it is on a flat surface will help..

Josh, I would like to request that you copy over my city (/warp GSC) It was built block by block on an ocean so it is mostly flat. I put a lot of effort into it. This is under construction right now, so if you need to, you can break out of the building I made around the warp. Thanks for reading  - Jon

As long as the area is completely flat, I can probably save a whole town. Smaller areas are better though, you'll have to find me online to get the exact pieces you want to save.

There is no underground area that would be possible to save.

That means that all underground areas are impossible.
