To encourage player to player trading. HQi88 suggested to me yesterday, that we remove some things from the /buy function of the shop.

He suggested things like wool and clay. So things that aren't impossible to get for yourself, but typically I tend to /buy when Im building something. I think this would be interesting. We'd see a lot more player shops, and income amongst players than just, I make money, so I can give it back to the shop.

    Suggested items would be...
Clay, wool, stained glass, any other ideas?

I like his idea, just a couple questions...
Isn't clay a bit hard to come by? Or is there a mesa biome I don't know about?
Also, is there a reason for only including stained glass rather than all glass?

Anyway, I suggest you nix all the ores (or at least lapis and redstone), the minerals (aka. Andesite, Granite, and Diorite).

While I was typing, I came up with another idea to promote player-to-player trade: the addition of a page on the website dedicated to tracking people's shops. The webpage could just be a a spreadsheet style page with sortable columns for vendor, item_sold, price and the location of the shop. Shop owners could just input the data themselves if there's no way to automate it. And with this info, we could find the the item we need for the lowest price or at least cheaper than the /buy price.

Tracking this would also promote a competitive market place which might even lead to a sort of stock market where people can see what's in demand and adjust prices according to that and other people's prices. Maybe I'm just being a nerdy excel addict but imo, that would be really freaking cool!

I made an example on docs.google. If you like my idea, lets run with it!

Clay can be made from clay found in rivers and then dyed, or from the mesa and then dyed (I think). Try /warp mesa . Those things usually get made when someone finds one.

As for glass, the only other kinds of glass I didnt mention are plain glass blocks, and plain glass panes. I guess they could be included too.

Some foods that need to be grown would be good too, carrots/potatoes/melon slices/wheat... this would really help player to player trading. Farm shops would be everywhere, breeding animals for money would go up.

I don't know how easy it would be to maintain a spreadsheet though, at the moment people don't tend to keep their shops open for more than a couple of weeks before moving onto a new activity, let alone keeping up to date with pricing across the entire world.

If by safe, you don't mean throwing your item on the floor at the player whilst hoping they pay you, no.

Under our Wiki on "Handling Disputes", we outline the process. As long as you have a screenshot of the player saying they'll pay you a specific amount, and then screenshots of them picking the items up, you will be good to go.

If they indeed don't pay you, then you can post those screenshots online and we'll force them to pay you by taking the money directly out of their balance.

I fell like this is a great idea. When I was running ELitis Industries I had to close down because noone is going to just go find a store and buy stuff when they can just do /buy. So i think shops are mostly flops until this is fixed. :/

Personally I like the idea of leaving only food items and some basic building materials (cobble, oak log, dirt, etc..) so that if you wanted to build more complex stuff, you'd have to obtain the items yourself. There are probably people who don't agree with that but that's fine cause I don't have any solid proposals for what that would look like.

There was a thread suggesting the idea of having special warps for player-made shops (link) idk if its being developed.

Yeah selling any food is very tough as that it is cheap and farms are easy. And we all get kit food so that also does not help sell food.

not sell, but really remove em off of buy, especaly if you can catch animals later on and have em as eggs

Yeah you basically can NOT sell animals as that transporting can take hours. So I think you schould make a plugin for that. I will write up a suggestion for it and post it

well you could use /mobnet to catch them then give the spawn egg. But what mobs that mobnet allows you to catch depends on your rank so equal access to animals is not given.

Kinda wonder what Josh and Joey think of this proposal as they are the ones coding cobalt

If someone made a list of all items to remove from /buy but not /sell and got lots of positive feedback on it, I will do it.

Ok I've got a spreadsheet here, I'm 99% sure this is everything already in the shop, and items with red next to them are suggested to come out.

This is to promote player shops, so for example, wool is out. There are sheep out there you can shear, and if you need dyed wool, you can get your own dyes. Alternatively, you can buy coloured wool from player shops, plain wool, and dyes seperately.

Flowers are also out. If you need them, go get them or buy them from each other, or grow them using bonemeal. Bonemeal stays in.

Along with wool, coloured glass is out. You can buy clear glass blocks, but panes, stained panes, and stained blocks are out.

Same with stained clays, and carpets.

Nether warts are out too, there's plenty of people out there making potions, nether warts are readily available in the overworld, as well as being found in the nether if you look hard enough.

Fish and other meats are out, cooked and uncooked, as well as other food items. Buy them from others, or grow them yourselves, or use /kit. This will promote /plus members, as well as trading between players.

I think thats it, so here's the full list if you're interested. If you like the look of these changes, give this post a thumbs up and hopefully we can get it implemented. If you disagree, comment below and suggest a change to it.

That list is great!! I really think that this should be added!

I think that all wood and planks should be removed as well.

Also, maybe cobble and stone and stone brick and everything cobble and stone make removed.

Liam can't edit his post so this is what he said...

Flowers stay in, but dyes stay out.

how about removing anything that's polished? (Granite, Diorite, Andesite.) that's about as easy to get as cobble stone and dirt.
